In 1986, Stefano Torossi joined fellow composers Sandro Brugnolini and Stefano Daino to make their Strumentali: Genere computermusic – homo tecnologicus album for Italy’s famed Fonit Cetra label.

The LP of computer and synthesizer-driven electronic music includes “The Day After,” “Il male,” “Sentenza di morte,” “La fossa dei serpenti,” “Effetto notte,” and “2015: Ritorno a New York” on Side A and “Cavaliere d’acciaio,” “Ricerca di identità,” “Mercatino delle illusioni,” “Gocce di fuoco,” “Replicante,” and “Ruote” on Side B.

Eleven of the dozen tracks are joint compositions by Sandro Brugnolini and Stefano Torossi, with Stefano Daino’s “Ruote” the only solo composition. Daino also programmed the Yamaha DX7, with Brugnolini responsible for the overall computer music programming and arrangements.

Other hardware used on Strumentali: Genere computermusic – homo tecnologicus include an Oberheim Xpander, Mirage Ensoniq, Apple IIE, Akai MG12122, Teac Tascam, and a Yamaha CX5M and RX11.

Three album tracks appeared two years later on Commenti musicali: Catastrofi/Disastri, a joint release by Fonit Cetra and RAI: “The Day After,” “Sentenza,” and “Il male.” As with the original LP, however, this out of print album was only issued in vinyl in Italy, making both collector’s items.

It seems neither the original LP nor the compilation has ever been reissued in CD or digital format.

In 1986, Stefano Torossi and Amedeo Tommasi made another early effort in electronica for Costanza, Musica per commenti sonori: L’uomo e la natura.

The LP was reissued in 1989 under the same title by Fonit Cetra, part of their Strumentali series.

Sandro Brugnolini and Stefano Torossi have collaborated on scores of full length albums and compilations between their first long player for Costanza Records in 1969, Musica per commenti sonori (CO 10005), literally releasing new albums in each subsequent decade: LPs, CDs, and now, increasingly, in digital download format.

January 2015 Release: Sandro Brugnolini’s L’uomo dagli occhiali a specchio Soundtrack Now Available From Cinedelic Records

At the beginning of 2015, each of the legendary composers has a new releases just out or in the works–and both are exceptional. Cinedelic Records has just released a limited edition vinyl reissue of Sandro Brugnolini’s L’uomo dagli occhiali a specchio soundtrack, which is available bundled with a multi-format digital downoad or as a digital release only.

Excerpts from the soundtrack which first appeared on Italy’s Vrooommm label in 1975 are currently found on both YouTube and Soundcloud. Note the digital download is available now, with the vinyl scheduled to ship around the middle of February.

Vinyl Reissue of Giovanni Tommaso and Stefano Torossi’s Echoing America On Tap For 2015 Release?

At the end of 2014, discussions about a vinyl reissue of Giovanni Tommaso and Stefano Torossi’s 1970 Echoing America album picked up steam and, fingers-crossed, an announcement will be forthcoming in the first quarter of the New Year. In 2013, Cometa Edizioni Musicali first reissued Echoing America in CD, adding an unreleased track and two alternates to the original 10-track vinyl LP version by Sermi. Here’s hoping the first digital version of the album is also part of the new release.

The album, a favorite of this correspondent, features a potent mix of rock, funk, jazz, bluegrass, and more. The description on the back of the original Sermi Film Edizioni Musicali vinyl LP explains the album’s inspiration:

The music in this Album is an expression of America’s mood today. Its echoes can be heard from the turbulent sounds in Harlem to the hallucinating cries of hippies in Greenwich Village; from the improvised jazz of New Orleans to the songs of mountain hill-billies; from the hoe-down of the cowboys in Texas to the Latin beat of the Mexicans. These American echoes go up to the coast of California, where powerful, frantic sounds can be heard across the land.

Online Sampler Includes Three LPs with Brugnolini-Torossi Tracks
