This is a re-post of a blog article from NCFIC.  They correctly point out that the church has been losing youth at an alarming rate for the past number of years.

One of the greatest opportunities we have to change that flow is to find ways to engage fathers within their families and at church.

I may be biased, but one of the most obvious ways to engage dads is to connect them to their children in outdoor adventure programs like Trail Life USA.  I submit that getting dad to come to meetings, share in outings (even if starting by being a driver/helper) will lead to other opportunities too.

Of all the studies recently published, the most telling related to the fathers role in discipleship is this: according to a report published by The Baptist Press [7] if a child is the first person in the household to become a Christian, there is a 3.5% probability everyone in the household will follow. If the mother is first, there is a 17% chance everyone else in the household will submit to Christ. Here’s the clincher: If the father professes Christ first, there is a 93% probability that everyone else in the house will heed the Gospel call.    God’s Word declares and studies affirm what this generation needs — an uprising of men committed to discipling their children.

If we provide the platform for dads to get involved, they can only benefit their household and then, by extension, the church at large.  However, we must act to get them involved.
