North Saanich Municipal Green Space

The green space surrounding the municipal offices for the District of North Saanich includes tall Douglas-fir trees and a large lawn. The lawn is bordered by an example of a hedgerow recommended for the Saanich Peninsula as indicated by the signage. This example hedgerow contains multiple native species such as salal, flowering current, oceanspray, Indian plum, mock orange, Oregon grape and kinnikinnick. It looks disorderly yet requires little to no maintenance and supports the survival of native birds and wildlife. In contrast, near the front of office building is a garden bed that contains the exotic single species of box hedge plants. There is also a bench below the flag pole beside a small lawn. Since this green spaces faces a Victoria International Airport  runway that is frequented by the small aircraft, it can be a good place to watch airport activities. The Flight Path is directly across Mills Road too.
