Even though it feels summery with warm rain and humidity from Tropical Storm Nate, the light and changing leaves are definitely autumnal.
For today’s arrangement, I’m featuring colors to match the season– gold Zinnias (Zinnia elegans ‘Sprite’), orange Cigar Plant (Cuphea ignea) and burgundy Dahlia ‘Voodoo’ with purple Salvia ‘Magic Wand’ used for contrast.
The heavy glass Art Deco style tripod vase is accented with Red Maple (Acer rubrum) and Barrenwort (Epimedium × versicolor) leaves. Grasses are Japanese Forest Grass (Hakonechloa macra ‘Aureola’) and Maiden Grass (Miscanthus sinensis ‘Gracillimis’).

A really beautiful arrangement you’ve created here, Eliza. Nice photo too.
It’s also starting to feel like autumn here. Although yesterday & Friday were in the high 90’s 😦 the light is getting that lovely feel.
Thank you, autumn light really is special. Hope your weather turns more Octoberish soon. 🙂
Love the introduction of all of those fall colors … nice images
Thank you, Debbie!
Rich autumn colors – you’re working your magic Eliza with those wands and voodoo :). Love the tones of orange in the zinnias.
Haha, you’re right – thanks for pointing out the magic, Liz. Being born on Halloween might have something to do with it, perhaps? 😉
Beautiful, Eliza. You’ve really captured the colours of the season. I noticed your lovely vase from the very first image, it’s very striking.
Thank you very much, Christina. That vase was one I just had to have, a great find.
Reblogged this on Purplerays.
Thank you for reblogging!
Reblogged this on anita dawes and jaye marie.
Thank you for reblogging!
Those lovely dark dahlias keep on coming, don’t they?
Yes, they are superb performers. I realized yesterday they have been blooming for two straight months! How amazing is that?
They don’t look like stopping anytime soon, either!
Only frost will do that, but the cool temps are slowing them down. The party is almost over. 😉
Lovely
Thank you, Derrick.
Beautiful! 🙂
Thank you, Rebecca!
My “eye” can see how carefully you arranged these flowers, Eliza. Just beautiful. 🍁
Thank you, Amy!
Lovely fall arrangement, but that vase is another winner. You clearly have the very best collection of gorgeous vases. I look forward to your post each Monday. 🙂
Thank you very much, Judy. I do have a weakness for a nice vase…I have a hutch full of them-lol! I have to say ‘no’ to many that I see for sale. They have to be extra-special to justify buying any more.
Super beautiful! Need to invent more adjectives for your gorgeous bouquets! The purple ‘Magic Wand’ really compliments the other colors. The Cuphea is so pretty, I’ve noticed Honey Bees on mine……and have several shoots in water, on a sunny sill… hoping they will root.
Thank you, Alice. The cuphea in a previous vase have already sent out shoots, so I guess they are easy to root. Looking forward to enjoying the flowers all winter.
That’s awesome…I’ll cut more stems!
You just put the cuttings in water, nothing added?? Hummingbirds will be so happy to see familiar flowers when they fly back here 😍
Yes, I’m just rooting them in water, but you could try moistened sand as well, which will create a stronger root.
Fabulous seasonal blend and the vase itself is striking as well. Hope your week is fun Eliza.
Many thanks, Susie.
The effect is beautifully dramatic Eliza.
Thank you, Andrea.
Hi Eliza, That’s a beautiful arrangement. The grasses and Maple leaves really do add so much and the vase is stunning. I’ve never seen anything like it.
Thank you, Sally! The vase really is unusual, found it at a thrift shop. I wish I knew its provenance.
What an absolutely gorgeous vase you have created this week! That bit of purple and the Hakonechloa grass make it sing. It says fall but in such an uplifting way. Your comment section won’t accept my blog address only my FB address. So here is a link to my vase today: http://www.lindabrazill.com/each_little_world/2017/10/toad-lilies-bloom-at-last.html
Thank you, Linda. Sorry about the WP thing, I usually hunt you down through other Blogspotters… loved your toadlilies today. 🙂
It’s like summer bursting into the flame of autumn and glowing there like hot coals. How very poetic of you!
No, you’re the poet– love the visual in your words. 🙂 Thanks, Kathy!
I love that arrangement.
Thank you, Brian 🙂
Absolutely gorgeous – thanks for giving me some great ideas!
My pleasure, thank you, Terri!
Perfect back drop too! Lovely.
A stunning vase with equally wonderful contents. You always make such beautiful arrangements!
Thank you, Peter… such wonderful praise! 🙂
Another beautiful vase – I really like those cigar plants. They’re unusual but pretty. I love the color.
Thank you, Sarah. I love that cigar plant, too. So much that I’m taking cuttings to have over the winter – it is so floriferous!
Beautifully autumnal 🙂
Thank you!
What a pretty autumnal vase, Eliza – thanks for sharing
Thank you, Cathy.
I’ve run out of words for arrangements, Eliza. Beautiful, stunning, breathtaking, lovely, wonderful, and filled with autumn’s magic, all come to mind but I’ve probably used them before. I need some new words. 🙂
🙂 I appreciate all your words of praise, thank you kindly, Robin.
loving the fall colours…
Thank you, it is a glorious time of year. ❤
Both the vase contents and the surrounding landscape do look distinctively autumnal, Eliza. Here, it’s just the cooler night temperatures and changing light values that mark the seasonal shift.
Thank you, Kris. Nate is dumping buckets today with rain and wind bringing down the leaves. I do love to watch the leaves in a gust fluttering to the ground, even though it is denuding the trees. Going to have to get used to skeleton trees again. I really miss the leaves and the fresh air they create.
A beautiful bouquet, Eliza, so well balanced. The grasses add just the right amount of lightness, love the colour of the Dahlia, a true winner 🙂
Thank you, Annette. ‘Voodoo’ has been blooming for two months – definitely a winner!
Yes, it’s about the light. And looking closely. Your arrangement reminded me.
Thank you, Albert.
A wonderful mix of colours giving an autumnal feel. The grasses give lovely movement.
Thank you, Alison.
Lovely, lovely, especially that burgundy dahlia.
Thank you, Laurie!
Properly Autumnal and perfect colors for a celebration of the season. The vase is cool and probably heavy enough to support my thick tropicals. I envy the Forest Grass, love it and have never lived far enough north to grow it.
Thank you, Amelia. It is a heavy vase, though the tripod can be tricky.
I moved a clump of Forest Grass to the shade garden and it has really thrived there. I will probably divide it again in the spring to increase it. It turns a lovely burnished gold in autumn.
love the texture of that grass.
🙂
What beautiful autumn colours Eliza. It is a lovely idea to use foliage from the maple, and your fabulous dahlia is still going strong! 🙂
Thank you, Cathy. That ‘Voodoo’ takes the prize for sure!
So lovely. I really like the look of dahlia voodoo.
Thank you very much, Dorris.
I love the edginess of this Eliza 😎
Thank you, Val! 🙂
A lovely arrangement – very autumnal!
Thank you, Fi.
A delightful autumn bouquet! We are getting the warm muggy weather up here, too.
Thank you, Joanna. Back to fall temps tomorrow.
❤ ❤ ❤ !!!
Thanks for the love, Julie. 🙂
A bouquet with unique colours that you can only see in October 😊!
Thank you, Anca!
Gorgeous, Eliza!
Thank you, Cynthia!
Love the deep colors in this arrangement. Great photos too!
Thank you very much, Denise!
Such lovely colours and textures!
Thank you, Belinda. I love when I get to use fall foliage in an arrangement. Happy Autumn!
To you as well😊
How colorful and vibrant, brings out the festive mood.
Cheers, Charu
Thank you, Charu.
Ah, Autumn. Wonderful color combinations complementing your pumpkin, Eliza. Love your detail shots, too.
Thank you very much, Jane, much appreciated!
Love the gorgeous fall colors!
Thank you, Cindy!
This! Reminds me why fall has a tendency to be my favorite season.
Thank you, it is a wonderful time of year.
Simply lovely 😊
Thank you, Storm!
OOoooh . . . Aahhhhhh . . . . I looove this. What part of the world are your gardens?
Massachusetts, US and you?
My gardens are fading as fall progresses… I miss puttering in them already!
This is glorious, Eliza. My gardens, and I, are in our autumnal decline 😦 Can’t wait for spring!
Thank you, Melissa. Mine, too, alas. Spring seems so far off, but we’ll get there. 🙂
Yes, and at the moment my service berry trees are flaming yellow so that’s a consolation. 🙂
