Gypsy Creams

The real thing…

Woman's Realm / 31st March 1967

I don’t know what grass these copywriters were used to, but I’m pretty sure the grass I see around my way isn’t that particular shade of green. Perhaps this is an early clubbing wear prototype. *puts on her old Altern-8 tape*

Hard to grasp just how much tastes have changed in 45 years. Any bodylength garment that is all wool looks utterly naff these days but my Gran in the 1960s would have regarded any such wool garment as sleek and modern. The colour, snot green, is disgusting. And her hair? Looks like a windswept wig grabbed off a mannekin.. Yet someone in an advertising agency thought this ad sophisticated in 1967.. Well, I was there then and life didn’t seem naff at all – it felt exciting and dynamic and ultra modern. I was 15 then. We have changed so much in our tastes & expectations..

It’s not grass green. It’s snot green. Very homely. ;-)

The dress isn’t that bad really. The matching green leggings are too much for me.
