Swimming with Strings: Slice of Life Tuesdays April 22,2014

I’ve been away from my guitar for a few weeks and I just went through the internal debate- Is it worth it to keep swimming in this world of wood and strings?   I don’t love the idea of practicing but usually, once I march myself into the guitar room and pick up my guitar and plan my practice and tune my strings and begin to play, I fall back in love with the sweet  sound I can now make after years of wondering if I’d ever be able to make the strings and wood sound beautiful.

And  even though I haven’t been showing up to my lessons with Jon, well prepared, our sessions have been wonderful as I restore my memory banks with the right chords moving up and down the crazy fret board to my old faves and some new challenges. t

To spice things up and keep me focused, we are talking about a recital in the Fall.  I need time to get ready and I’ve already invited  Slicer Tara and her husband Scott to my event,  so that makes it  real.  It will be a small, select group of friends who won’t get up and walk out if I get a fit of nerves and go through brain freeze and as a consolation prize  I will be sure to offer my guests a nice buffet of refreshments.

I’ve been here before and loved the process of preparing, just like I loved rehearsing a play with my high school drama kids.  The performance itself will cause me some sleepless nights, but this process is a great way of staying focused with a target date soon to be decided.  So my Slicer friends if you are planning a trip to the New York area in the fall, let me know.  I might be able to save you a few seats.

I’m back swimming in some deep musical waters again 🙂

  1. You know I’d love to be there. Perhaps if I get there in August, you may give a sneak preview of the selections you are considering. 🙂 I love the way you used the swimming language to apply to your music work.

    • That was a great day even with some serious mess ups 🙂 The pics don’t bring the torture out and that’s a good thing. Hope I don’t freak this time around.

  2. Wish I could drop by and Tara for this evening of music. I’ll keep it in mind, but I think my fall trip will be to DC for NCTE. I’ll look forward to reading all about it here!

  3. Well, you can always record a few songs for those of us who can’t make the trip. 🙂 You know….technology and all…
