Where should one start for personal development ?

Welcome back to day 3 of a weeklong blog series on Personal Development.

  • As quite aptly put by Maria Robinson, “Nobody can go back and start a new beginning, but anyone can start today and make a new ending”. So start from exactly where you are, whatever your circumstances, it’s never too late to embark upon a journey to Personal development. – Start Today, Start with positivity.
  • Questions yourself as who am I? What motivates me? What does success mean to me? If this were the last day of my life, would I have any regrets? Introspect the answer to these questions, take time, and keep at the process till you have the answer that is truly you. Take help from your family, friends, or colleagues. Perform SWOT on yourself and your circumstances. – Analyze your situation.

  • Give yourself time but act continuously even if as little as 15 minute a day but keep working, don’t break the momentum else inertia would catch up with you (remember if you are not improving then you are deteriorating which would be self-abdication. You just have just one life and purpose should be to self actualization (becoming what you truly want to be and capable of).Persistent Efforts.
  • Start with resources you have, turn your “Can’t” into “Can” and “Dreams” into “Worthy plans”. Plan.
  • Start with circumstance you are in, don’t wait for them to change as “If one does not know to which port one is sailing, no wind is favorable” and perfect circumstance are myth.Act.

  • Start with a belief and build on it, do things to build (belief is not an emotion but rational interface of our experience in life). Believe in yourself.

  • Expect difficulties and obstacles, as does everyone else who has succeeded in achieving their goals. They build your character; once you overcome one difficulty it gives you energy and confidence to over come next two difficulties you may face. It’s an incremental system, which keeps improving you with each success. – Be realistic.

  • Failure is part of process, accept it and learn from it, face it and surpass it. You will not always succeed right away but enough sincere effort would surely lead you to your goals. As Winston Churchill put it “Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.” Learn from experience.
