I wonder what kind of Sunday School material Westboro Baptist uses. I could imagine the same kind of stairs under the heading “Draw a circle around the one God hates the most” where the top 2 spots would go to gays and soldiers!
I’m pretty sure that’s supposed to be a baptismal shell. When the priest in effect can make God love you more, you don’t really need to show the baby anymore – I think we all get who really matters most in this picture, and it’s not the baptized baby!
I love the “He gives them more gifts”. I wonder how many kids were like “I didn’t get any gifts” or went looking for the hidden presents when they got home.
First off, I’m Christian so I’m not anti-God obviously. But the theology presented in the image is at best convoluted, and at worst heresy.
Avoiding the debatable theology of infant baptism altogether, let’s just talk “saved” vs. “unsaved”. Firstly, I don’t see in scripture that it says God loves those who are in Christ more than those who are not. In fact, it says “while we were still sinners, Christ died for us” b/c of His great love for humanity. So He loves the “unsaved” regardless and wants them to be reconciled to Him through Jesus. That’s the basic gospel throughout the whole Bible.
Secondly, scripture doesn’t say that once we’re “saved”, His love for us increases. While it says heaven celebrates together over every salvation, it doesn’t say or imply that God’s love increases toward us due to our salvation/righteousness. (Read the “Prodigal Son” parable by Jesus for reference.)
He is love and He loves every person, regardless of his/her sinful or righteous status (whether we are in Christ or not). True, the unrighteous (those not in Christ Jesus) are on a path toward eternal separation from God (Hell) unless they believe on the Lord Jesus, call on Him for salvation, & surrender to His lordship. But this doesn’t equate to God loving the unrighteous less than the righteous. He loves all and desires that no one should perish (John 3:16-17 & 2 Peter 3:9). But it’s up to the individual to choose eternity with or without God. Neither decision effects His love toward him/her.
