RIP- I was introduced to Dworkin by Dr. Kenny Steinman, PhD, MPH who was at the time my advisor in health promotion during my MPH program. Dworkin was required reading for his course. What? Is there ever time to lift over noses out of an epidemiology journal? To Dr. Steinman, we must THINK before acting…It was such a surprising blessing that fit my approach to theorizing about health. As a tribute to Mr. Dworkin and to Dr. Steinman, I will work on reviving a legal piece in the coming days that I started long ago while I was a guest lecturer in African American and African Studies at Ohio State…Just as Dworkin fought positivism in law, I see Orgcomplexity as a vehicle to combat the stranglehold of positivism in health. Yes social networks are structures if utilized prematurely as merely descriptive motifs how how we fit together. We should know better that each dot on a sociograph has a “complex” human nature that should be also accounted for in public discourse. Orgcomplexity as a credo will infuse structural power of networks into human agency. Now I have a place for the paternalism piece…My blog. Watch for it.
