What is Yaz®?

Yaz® is a popular oral birth control medication. Yaz® was approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) not only for birth control, but also for acne and premenstrual dysphoric disorder. Because Yaz® was approved for uses other than just birth control, it was sometimes referred to as the birth control pill “with benefits.”Yaz® and/or related birth control medications were advertised extensively on television. Yaz® was an extremely successful and popular medication for the birth control drug manufacturers.

Side Effects Of Yaz®.

A key active ingredient in Yaz® is drospirenone. Drospirenone, which is referred to as a “fourth generation” progestin, has been shown to increase potassium levels in the blood and has been linked to several dangerous side effects that were different in kind and degree when compared to other common birth control medications.

Bayer is a primary maker of certain drospirenone-containing birth control medications.

Yaz® has been linked to serious and often fatal blood clots, such as deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, and stroke, including transitory ischemic attack (TIA).

Side-Effect/Deep Vein Thrombosis/DVT:

A deep vein thrombosis, which is sometimes called a DVT, is a blood clot that is usually located in the legs or arms. It can be extremely painful. Worse, a DVT can break loose and travel through the veins to the lungs.

Side-Effect/Pulmonary Embolism/Pulmonary Emboli:

A deep vein thrombosis that breaks loose and travels to one’s lungs is called a pulmonary embolism. A pulmonary embolism can be extremely dangerous, and can sometimes even result in death.

Side Effect/Ischemic Stroke/Transitory Ischemic Attack:

An ischemic stroke is caused when a blood clot cuts off the supply of blood (and therefore oxygen) to part of the brain. The consequences of an ischemic stroke or transitory ischemic attack (TIA) and be permanent and devastating.

How To File A Lawsuit For Yaz®?

Filing a lawsuit for a Yaz®-related injury is fairly simple. An experienced lawyer working for a law firm can file a Yaz® lawsuit against Bayer (the maker of certain drospirenone-containing medications) related to a blood clot injury claim. Usually a potential client will contact a Yaz® lawyer or attorney and provide factual information concerning the potential claim.

The Yaz® attorneys will investigate the potential claim by ordering medical and pharmacy records. The Yaz® lawyers are looking for proof of use and proof of injury. The proof of use sought by the lawyer is generally proof that a prescription was written for Yaz® or a pharmacy filled a Yaz® prescription. The proof of injury sought by the attorney is usually contained in hospital records showing the diagnosis and treatment of a DVT, PE or stroke.

The Yaz® attorneys can then incorporate that information into a complaint or pleading that can be filed against Bayer or another drug manufacturer for money damages. Sometimes meritorious claims can be settled even without filing a lawsuit, depending upon the facts of the case. What Types of Yaz® Lawsuits Being Settled?

The basic types of Yaz® lawsuits that may qualify for a Yaz® monetary settlement generally involve venous blood clots. A venous blood clot can include a deep vein thrombosis, or DVT, a pulmonary embolism, or PE, or an ischemic stroke, including a TIA, or transitory ischemic attack.

In order for a claim to settle, it is strongly suggested that the Yaz® lawyers bringing the Yaz® claim are able to provide evidence of the client’s use of Yaz® within a short time of the client’s diagnosis with the deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism or stroke. Often this period of time will be approximately 30 days or less measured from the last use of Yaz® to the date of the diagnosis of the blood clot injury event.

What To Expect When Filing A Yaz® Lawsuit or Claim/How To
File A Yaz® Lawsuit Or Claim?

A client asserting a Yaz® lawsuit claim should expect that she will need to have taken Yaz® and generally within a short period of time thereafter (eg., 30 days) must have been diagnosed with a venous blood clot, such as a pulmonary embolism, deep vein thrombosis or stroke.

To begin a Yaz® lawsuit, the Yaz® lawyer will file a complaint, petition or other pleading with a trial court and send a copy to Bayer and/or another drug manufacturer.

Sometimes, a Yaz® claim may be settled without filing a lawsuit. Contact an experienced Yaz® attorney to learn more about how some cases may be settled without filing a lawsuit. Not all claims will qualify for a settlement.
