Stacking the Shelves 10

Happy Canada Day long weekend for all you fellow Canadians out there!

To celebrate, I’m participating in my first-ever blog hop – happening all this long weekend with lots of other participants too! So be sure to swing by and check out my Canada Day blog hop stop!

Also, this past week I was on a roll with some reviews.. 2 fantastic graphic novels: Baby’s in Black by Arne Bellstorf (about the Beatles) and Hark! A Vagrant by Kate Beaton (hilarious historical & literary comic strips), as well as Jodi Picoult’s new YA novel she wrote with her daughter, Between the Lines.

Wowee… so I had been thinking about it for a while, but relatively impulsively made the switch from wordpress.com to .org. (Hence the “under construction”  notice up top, and the slightly messy.. slightly different layout) Still trying to figure out the tweaks. I DO ask one favour though… If you were following me before via the “follow” button, email or RSS feed and would like to stay following this blog, can you please take a moment to click over on the right sidebar there and re-follow? Apparently the move has wiped out ALL my stats and followers!! *cries* So so so not happy about that. 😦 Okay, it might’ve been slightly resolved. If you were subscribed via email/RSS, then I think I’ve managed to move those subscribers over. *crossing fingers*

For Review

The Book of Madness and Cures by Regina O’Melveny <– eARC for read & review from publisher. Looked really interesting, and definitely had wanted to check it out.

Waiting for Daybreak by Amanda McNeil <– eARC for read & review from author for upcoming blog tour.

The End: 50 Apocalyptic Visions From Pop Culture That You Should Know About… Before It’s Too Late by Laura Barcella <– eARC from publisher for read & review. Phew, what a mouthful of a title! It sounded really interesting though, so I definitely wanted to check it out.

Purchased

The Agency: A Spy in the House by Y.S. Lee <– eBook purchased on Kobo. Used a promo code and remember that Wendy (A Cupcake and a Latte) really liked this series, so finally got around to buying it for less than $5!

Gifted

City of Bones (The Mortal Instruments, #1) by Cassandra Clare <– gifted from the lovely Nicole (Nicole About Town)! I had the trade paperbacks of #2 and 3, and wanted to re-read #1 again first. Thank you N! 🙂

City of Fallen Angels (The Mortal Instruments, #4) by Cassandra Clare <– Also gifted by Nicole! ❤

Devine Intervention by Martha Brockenbrough <– ARC gifted from the awesome Wendy (A Cupcake and a Latte). Thank you!!

Grim by Anna Waggener <– Also another lovely from Wendy! ❤

Hemingway the Sock Monkey!

Joanne Levy, author of Small Medium at Large, mentioned on Twitter about how her book was now showing quantities in bookstores before the actual on-counter date. First person to tweet her a pic of them in store would win Hemingway the Sock Monkey! Well, I was SURE someone would have gotten her a picture before me, but I saw this display at the Eaton Centre Indigo, and I won! What a cute jaunty fellow.. parking himself on my chair already, legs crossed and all 😎 Plus a couple lovely rubber bracelets book swag too! I promised to give him a good home and to occasionally take awesome photos of him to show Joanne 😀

What did you get this week? Leave your link and I’ll be sure to check it out too! 🙂

Thanks for stopping by! 😎

  1. For what it’s worth, I’m following you on Google Reader and your posts are still showing up in my feed! You should set up Feedburner for your blog (if you haven’t already). I think that will keep track of your followers (if they follow through RSS or email on that) even if you move around.

Hope you get everything fixed soon!

  2. Hmm!

You should be able to link your jetpack stats from your .com with your new .org
Oh, and use the default subscribe by email widget. It’s the easiest thing to use.

Anyway, enjoy your haul this week. I loved the Book of Madness and Cures. One of my fav’s this year so far. And I love Hemingway the sock monkey. He looks awesome!

  3. Love the sock monkey! Very cute. 🙂

And have fun rereading the Mortal Instruments books! Those are some of my favourites — I’ve read them twice AND just listened to the audio. Now I really gotta move on and read the next books in the series.

Good luck with the move! Like I said, you’re braver than I am. 🙂

  4. SOCK MONKEY!!! 😀

Yay for making the switch! I’m still contemplating weather or not to pay for my own domain here. I suppose if I updated as often as I would like then it’ll be worth it.

Nice haul! I still haven’t real the Mortal Instruments and I always see it at Strand but I never pick it up! Speaking of which, I’ll send out the comic soon- I left it at my parents’ place and haven’t been back to pick it up.

jenn | my stacking the shelves (yeah I made a switch)

  5. Hehe! That sock monkey is ADORABLE! But the books look amazing! I am still in need of reading City of Fallen Angels and Grim looks amazing!! The Agency has been officially added to my to read pile on goodreads.com – looks fantastic! Great book haul this week Michele!

  6. I know that a lot of people didn’t like City of Fallen Angels and think the series should have ended after City of Glass, but I loved it!! Grim sounds really good. Love the sock monkey!!!
