When it Rains, it Pours.
Woman in the Middle | December 4, 2014On Monday we had a long day of on and off, gentle rain. It is just the kind of rain you want when there is a drought because it soaks into the ground. When I woke up yesterday it wasn’t raining and the sun even came out a bit. Then the clouds came in again but there wasn’t much more rain. Well, until about 3:30 in the afternoon. I was driving along thinking, “My it’s dark. It must be later than I thought.” I looked at my clock and saw it was only 3:30. I knew then that we were going to be in for a downpour. Oh, was I right. It started pouring down rain before I could get home. I ended up creeping up my street at about 5 miles an hour, it was raining so hard the windshield wipers were useless. When I got to my house my driveway and front walkway were so flooded I had a hard time navigating the puddles to get to my front door.
Oh, but the real excitement was happening in the street. It was trash day and trash cans were rushing down the street in the torrent. Ours ended up against Eldest Daughter’s car. I thought about trying to move it, but decided that it was protecting the car from the water, at least somewhat.
This is what the rest of my street looked like.
The water is so full of dirt because up the street and around the corner is a vacant hill. I told the city last summer that this is what happens when we get a hard rain – lots of water and dirt come off that hill. Staff did nothing and never got back to me. Well, I will be calling first thing in the morning to have them remove the mud that deposits near the storm drains. Sigh. I guess nobody believed me! I am having a bit of an “I told you so” moment right now.
As we say in the south, bless your heart! We need a good soaking rain too, but not a flash flood. Sorry about the mess. I bet it was a sight to see the trashcans all floating down the road.
It was quite the site. Almost felt sorry for the poor things! If it weren’t for my daughter’s car, who knows where that trash can would have been!
Yikes! What a mess. Now that is what I would certainly call a downpour.
I think Eldest Daughter’s car and the trash can were protecting each other!
At least some of the rain helped the drought.
I don’t think the city didn’t believe you – I think they just didn’t get around to it. I think you SHOULD call them again and get them out there – NOW! (LOL)
