SIHH 2015 : Baume et Mercier Clifton Big Date & Power Reserve

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Horologium has tracked the progress of Baume et Mercier’s Clifton model since its launch two years ago, and it remains our favourite collection from the brand.  The latest addition to the collection has an unexpected ‘big date’ at 12 o’clock that is more commonly seen in German brands, and with a power reserve indicator at 6 o’clock. As you can tell from the links in the previous paragraph, it is not the Clifton’s first date indication, nor is it the Clifton’s first power reserve indicator.

This new combination of features is in the now familiar 43mm polished and satin-finished stainless steel case and is automatic, with the movement and its oscillating weight engraved with the Greek Phi visible through the sapphire caseback.

In keeping with the majority (there are exceptions) of the previous Clifton models, the hour and minute hands are gold, with the ‘extra’ function, in this case the power reserve, featuring a blued hand. The now readily recognisable silvered dial and gold polished Arabic and hour markers are all present and correct, as they say.

The new model is water-resistant to 5m and comes on a brown alligator strap with a triple folding deployant buckle.
