On April 12, 2012 Harvard Office for Sustainability hosted the third annual Green Carpet Awards, a university-wide event honoring and recognizing students, staff and faculty who have made significant contributions to Harvard’s sustainability goals.

The Office for Sustainability honored Harvard Kennedy School alumnus Lester Brown, MPA ’62, with the first-ever Distinguished Service Award.

Described by the Washington Post as “one of the world’s most influential thinkers,” Brown founded the Worldwatch Institute and the Earth Policy Institute. He is the recipient of many prizes and awards, including 25 honorary degrees, a MacArthur Foundation “genius award” and most recently he was selected as Foreign Policy’s Top Global Thinkers of 2010. Brown addresses political and natural tipping points in his most recent book “World on the Edge.”
