BVB’s youngsters comfortably beat Rot-Weiß Oberhausen away from home this morning with a 5-2 victory, keeping pace with the league’s top three after eleven league games this season.

Osman Varol started at right-back, his first appearance since signing a professional contract with the club after he turned 17 earlier this month. His cross into the box was turned home by Benjamin Bella after 12 minutes for the opener, before Josef Bungert smacked a 25-yarder in off the bar five minutes later to double the lead.

Edmund Zander pulled one back for the hosts before the break, before Ogün Gümüstas restored a two-goal cushion midway through the second-half. As Oberhausen tried to force a grandstand finish, they were caught on the break and conceded a corner in the final minute.

Gümüstas grabbed his second, and BVB’s fourth, from the set-piece with a tidy finish from fifteen yards out, and Josef Odenthal bagged his third of the season in stoppage time when he nodded home a cross from Karl-Heinz Horn.

The U19s have one more fixture before the new year, heading to Gladbach next Sunday. In other Group 3 news, Fortuna Köln climbed off the bottom with their second win on the bounce (a 2-1 win at Essen), being replaced by win-less Oberhausen.
