#MustReadin2016 List

mustreadin2016challenge

#Mustreadin2016 is a reading challenge hosted by Carrie Gelson at There’s a Book for That. As Carrie explains:

For anyone out there with a To Be Read list that seems like it will never end, this challenge is for you! This is all about making your own personal list of books 5? 10? 20? 30? more? that you want to commit to reading in 2016.

Books can be published in any year, be from any genre, and from any category -adult, YA, MG, Graphics, NF, etc titles.  All that matters is that they are books you want to be sure not to forget as that TBR list continues to grow! These aren’t the only titles you will read over the year, but a list to help guide your reading.

I decided to keep my list short this year in an effort to ensure success, though I was very tempted by Cheriee’s persuasive argument in favor of the magic of the number 36. Just 12 titles for me, theoretically one per month. Even in my worst reading month in 2015, I managed to finish three books. Surely I can do 12–especially since three of them are graphic novels. These 12 titles are middle-grade and young adult books that I meant to read in 2015 and never got around to.

Yesterday was my first day back at one of my schools, and two teachers and SIX 8th graders asked me if I had All American Boys. I promptly ordered two for each school, for now….

I am very inclined to already love this novel because I love all things Jason Reynolds. Can’t believe 6 students are asking for it–love that! #bookpusher4life

Awkward is so adorable! I loved it. I have Goodbye Stranger checked out right now. I hope I get to it. It’s at the bottom of a big stack of library books.

I like keeping the list short. I have found that listing books makes me crabby (I tend to get through half and then abandon the list) (see: failed TBR challenge) but it was a good way to make me remember I wanted to read the books. So, yes. I agree with your pick of 12, obviously.

I am of two minds about lists: love making them, equally love resisting them. Something about assigned reading…. even when I’m assigning it myself, I have to resist. Too many years of being a student, I think. I’ve learned to limit required reading as much as possible in my classes because I don’t want to do it either. My college students find so much choice and independence in what they read for a class novel and refreshing, but really, I’m just having to work around my own reading psychosis!

So glad you joined us. I hear you on the list making – which is why I plan to be quite chill about my list. I think I will end up reading about half the books by March and then some will still call to me and others not so much. I also put some graphic novels on the list and plan to give myself uninterrupted time to just sit and read these!

We have a bunch of overlapping titles!!—Marvels, More Happy Than Not, Enchanted Air, and All American Boys. And Seventh, Rest of Us, and Symphony almost ended up on mine. Great minds 🙂 You’ll love Awkward, I think. It is a fun graphic novel! I love the true representation of middle schoolers in it. Happy reading!
