Iowa Could go to Romney

It may sound strange, but it seems as though presidential candidate Mitt Romney could win Iowa.  If he does, it won’t be because Romney has wowed voters.  Rather, a Romney presidency will come about because President Obama has already had a chance to fix the economy, and has not done so.

In his final 48 hours of campaigning, Romney will visit Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Iowa.  Today, he held four rallies in Iowa.

According to a New York Times story about Iowa, the biggest newspaper in Iowa, the Des Moines register, has given it’s support to Romney, saying, “The president’s best efforts to resuscitate the stumbling economy have fallen short.  Nothing indicates it would change with a second term in the White House.”  The other main newspaper in Iowa no longer endorses candidates.

Iowa’s governor, Terry Branstad said of Obama, “Iowans feel betrayed.  Almost a sense of — not only disappointed, but almost a sense of betrayal that our principles of sound budgeting and responsible government have been ignored by this administration for four straight years.”

Another surprising factor that could impact the election is our dear friend hurricane Sandy.  The storm has caused severe damage in several swing states and has now moved off coast and begun reforming.  The storm is set to make landfall again around Wednesday, which means an early arrival could have a large impact on voters.  According to the Weather Channel, 27 percent of registered Democrats say that bad weather will stop them from voting, whereas only 20 percent of registered Republicans will let bad weather stop them from voting.  In a state like Iowa, seven percent could mean a win for Romney.  Of all undecided voters, 35 percent say bad weather will prevent them from voting.

Time can only tell what Iowa has planned for Mitt Romney.
