U23 Medals Followed Up With Men’s Quad win in B Final

On the final day of racing at the Under 23 World Championships the men’s quad finished first in the B Final with a time of 5:52.42. (This was faster than 6th and 5th place in the A Final). Unfortunately Matt Wortley suffered a rib injury in a tough semi-fiinal battle for the last qualifying spot for the A final. Matt was replaced by Tim Schrijver who had just won gold in the cox four yesterday. It’s a real testament to Tim’s versatility, the depth of the Brock program and the benefit of having 12 singles for training at Brock. All the top athletes have the chance to become proficient at both sweep and sculling.

Brock athletes figured prominently in two of the three Canadian crews that medaled at the U23 Championships. The bronze won by James Myers and Grayson Gray was the first lightweight medal to be won at a U23 Championships since 2005.

A big thank you to the entire team at Brock who make this possible, from the coaches to the physical therapy staff and supporting alumni and friends of Brock Rowing. We will continue to thrive with continued support from the entire extended team.
