2014 West Somerset Railway Autumn Steam Gala - GWR 4575 Class 2-6-2T prairie 5542Whilst traveling with my wife and friends on our way for a couple of nights in north Devon last weekend, we had a brief (35 minutes to be exact) moment to stop en-route at the delightfully quaint station at Stogumber on the West Somerset Railway.  The line was in the midst of it’s Autumn steam gala, an event with a theme – Taunton shed.  For this reason, some locomotives were renumbered and renamed for the gala to represent locomotives that were based in Taunton in the past.  As we arrived, in it’s normal guise was 4575 prairie tank 5542 drifting into the station.  Thirty minutes later one of the recreated locomotives climbed to the station – 4932 Hatherton Hall (4936 Kinlet Hall in disguise.)  Unfortunately this 35 minute stop was all I saw of the event, but fortunately for locoyard readers, the event has been covered fantastically well by Shirl (click here to watch more.)2014 West Somerset Railway Autumn Steam Gala - Stogumber - Flower plantersThe visit was short but very sweet, as we squeezed one of the station’s legendary cream teas into the brief stop!  However, the Pièce de résistance was the planter above!  Food for thought for the garden… I’ll leave you with a few pictures from the visit.
