Chocolate Covered Bacon

This one does not involve any baking, it rather involves some cooking but the result might be used for baking. I am not even sure how I came about this one, I might have been inspired by the “National Chocolate Covered Anything Day”. Yes, you read that right, on December 16th you can celebrate this very delicious holiday and completely feel guild free when eating. If I didn’t see it there I might have stumble across it somewhere online, or I saw it on TV? It doesn’t matter, I thought it genius and wanted to try it.

I think chocolate covered bacon is somewhat like chocolate covered pretzels. The saltiness of the one combined with the sweetness of the other. *hmmm*

“Ingredients”:

– bacon, preferably more meat than fat
– frying pan
– chocolate

Hmmm, bacon.

Now, this one is a no-brainer: fry your bacon to your liking. However, I suggest the crisp version, it will make dipping easier. Transfer to a paper towel to soak up the fat and let it cool. After your bacon is cooled off you can melt the chocolate in a double boiler or the microwave.

Tip: I would recommend to your dark or semi-sweet chocolate. However, if you don’t like dark chocolate then you better stick with milk chocolate.

Just like bacon makes everything better…

Dip the bacon in the melted chocolate and place on wax paper to dry. Now you can either eat is as is, which is quite an experience, or you could chop it up and decorate your baking with it, like “Mancakes”. That nifty idea comes from Carlene from BS in the Kitchen, it’s cupcakes for men. While she uses sugar glazed bacon I would say that chocolate covered bacon would work as well. After all, the mancakes were made with chocolate batter.

Personally, I haven’t decorated anything yet with chocolate covered bacon, I am still waiting for the occasion. All I know is, my husband was not all too fond of it, which has much to do with dark chocolate. However, I think chocolate covered bacon is terrific and you should try it!

…chocolate makes everything better as well. Double win!

Happy baking!

Would you try or make chocolate covered bacon? If you would, where would you use it?
