A prototype of the Infiniti Q30 has been captured undergoing cold weather testing in France. Not to be confused with spyshots of the Infiniti QX30, this heavily-camouflaged unit hides Infiniti’s answer to the premium hatch segment which comprises of the Audi A3, Volvo V40 and the like.
Set to share the Mercedes-Benz GLA‘s platform, the Infiniti Q30 is also reported to share its engine options – mainly a 2.0 litre, four-cylinder mill. Assembly of said engine is set to take place in Decherd, Tennessee. An engine from the Daimler-Renault collaboration could feature as well.
Unfortunately, any deductions based on the car’s looks are a shot in the dark courtesy of the test team’s expert wrapping skills. From what we can gather, it’s pretty much a lowered QX30 – itself a blank canvas. The upcoming Q30 was previewed as a concept back in 2013 at the Frankfurt show.
With prototypes already undergoing tests, the production version of both the Q30 and QX30 should be set for a debut sometime next year followed by sales in late 2015 or early 2016. Production of the Infiniti Q30 is set to take place in Sunderland, England.
