CNE: Colossal Onion

Nouman, Ghazal and I went to the CNE with a bunch of our co-workers on Thursday evening so I thought I’d write about the FOOD I had there.

The EX is known for all the deep fried goodness – deep fried coke, deep fried Mars bars, deep fried Oreo cookies, doughnut cheese burgers (mhmm – meat between 2 doughnuts instead of buns), etc. So ofcourse, I wanted to try lots of yummy things when I got there.

Sad truth: we got to the EX probably between 7:30 and 8:00 so we didn’t have too much time to eat all the junk.

Dinner
I had perogies and they were wayyy below average. For some odd reason, I can’t remember the name of the place I had them – I think it was Supreme Perogies. There are 2 places that offer perogies – one is really good and one is not. I had the one that is not. It tastes blah – no onions, mushy inside, and a tasteless shell. Ghazal’s has tried the other place (I believe it’s called The Perogie Chef) and said it’s really good.

Nouman had a Philly (Chicken) Steak Sandwich with Cheese from Quick Pita. He said it was really yummy.

Post-Dinner Snack
I really wanted to try the Blooming Onion from the Colossal Onion place and it was YUMMMMYY!!!!

For those who don’t know, a blooming onion is an onion that is cut in the shape of a flower, battered and deep fried. It is then served with sauce.

At the CNE, Colossal Onion was serving this and I was jonesing to try some. At $10, it is HUGE and must be shared with someone. The onion to batter ratio was perfect – the batter was crispy and the onion was delish. The sauce they served it with was also awesome – slightly tangy and very yummy.

Be aware though: try to not look at your hands and plate once you’re done eating – both are sure to be covered in oil.

I also tried a piece of Apple & Cinammon Beaver Tail and it was really good. Too bad I didn’t get to try the deep fried Oreo cookie 😦 .. I’m not a fan of Mars sooo deep fried Mars bars doesn’t call out to me much :p

Scrumptious
