Hot Time in The City

When the temperature reaches 104 in Times Square and the sidewalks measure 147 degrees of heat radiating up in your face, outdoors is really not the place to be. On a recent trip to New York City, the heat was so intense that any respite from it was indeed welcome. Unfortunately all too many of the taxis in NYC don’t exactly offer much in the way of air conditioning.

Times Square

The main focus for this trip was shooting photos of the group I was accompanying as they rang the closing bell at the New York Stock Exchange. Most of the three day program was indoors so the temperature was only occasionally an issue.

Once the group activities had finished, we had the weekend to return to favorite spots and try a couple of new places to eat. We anxiously anticipated a return visit to a wonderful place for brunch in the Lower East Side, The Stanton Social. This cozy eatery takes the Tapas concept of serving small plates of food to an amazingly high level.

Huevos Rancheros

This was our second visit to The Stanton Social so we knew we wanted to end our meal with a little breakfast dessert. We started with Huevos Rancheros which arrive in soft tacos filled with scrambled chorizo & eggs, black beans, salsa fresca and aged cheddar.

Breakfast Bruschetta

Our second egg dish was Breakfast Bruschetta, lightly toasted bread piled high with scrambled eggs, oven dried tomatoes and asiago cheese. Yum!

Croque Monsieur 'Satays'

Next was the Croque Monsieur ‘Satays’ which arrive as bite-sized pieces complete with a satay scewer for picking up and eating. Each bite is made from a mini brioche with country ham, gruyere and muenster cheeses. They are served on a dollop of a light, bechamel type sauce. Absolutely outstanding!

Caramelized Banana Pancakes

The finale to our brunch was a delightful, almost desserty Caramelized Banana Pancakes. The mini stack arrived with vanilla brown butter, maple syrup, and a candied pecan on top. What a sweet way to end our last meal on our trip to the New York Stock Exchange.
