I normally don’t eat beef. But since Taiwanese beef noodles are so popular, I broke my restraints and ordered a few bowls here and there. What we found in each order was a big, hearty bowl of fatty rice noodle with assorted beef – stewed, braised and tendon. Some places also offer noodle choices between the typical fatty ones and vermicelli. Clear broth versus dark and herbal broth. Some places also offer other dishes for those who do not eat beef also.

Tastewise – most of the beef noodles we tried in Taipei were not bad, some quite delicious. A good experience to try if you are into beef and do not want to miss one of the most famous delicacies in Taipei.

The Kitchen Table’s Beef Noodle
10F, W Taipei, No. 10, Section 5, Zhongxiao E Road, Xinyi District, Taipei

At about NT$580 (+10% service charge), the beef noodle or niou rou mien (taipei style braised beef noodle soup with condiments) on the menu at the Kitchen Table at W Taipei was the largest portion of beef noodle we had while in the city. The broth was intense and leaning heavily towards the salty state, the beef cuts were big and plenty. The noodle chewy and soft. And I loved that the basin came with condiments being chili sauce, pickled cabbages, fresh cut chilies, fresh cut cilantro and spring onion and vinegar. This was one big big meal. CNN Go ranked this beef noodle among Taipei’s best. After all, according to the website, this beef noodle was a favourite to the local star couple Chen “Blackie” Chienchou and Christine Fan who ordered 600 hundreds bowls of this specialty to be served at their wedding at the hotel in 2011. 4th Floor, Breeze Xinyi, just opposite to the W Taipei

Before arriving Taipei, a friend who is a resident here recommended that we check out the new Breeze department store that is directly opposite to the W Taipei. The whole building is packed with upscale designer’s and brand name shops, but the glories are on its 4th floor which is the food floor with a bunch of mall-chain restaurants. One of them is ‘Champion Beef Noodle’ where we tried our second beef noodle of the trip. Here are the pictures.

I liked the place, which has an efficient look of a canteen. Just grab and go place for a quick meal. The clear broth was good and the whole thing was delish. However, they should definitely have more of the condiments, especially the chili sauce 😀

Ximendeng’s Beef Noodle (Niu Kung Kuan)

We practically bumped into this beef noodle place while waiting for the crossing lights at Ximendeng to turn green. This modern and airy place serves a good variety of beef noodles, appetisers and some non-beef items. I also liked the tastes of the beef noodles here. They also provided good choices of condiments – from chili oil, toasted chilies, vinegar and pickles.
