Sutherland Marketing, cold caller with an offer for an “Easy Exit” out of timeshare

The alert goes out for a company called Sutherland Marketing who is at present actively cold calling timeshare owners and offers them dates for a meeting where an Easy Exit System” out of timeshare will be discussed.

There is no website to look at and no phone numbers to call unless you agree to go to the meeting that is!

They quote as their UK address: Head office 4th floor, Park House, 111 Uxbridge Road, Ealing but we understand there are meetings held everywhere and there is one planned for  Tunbridge Wells.

Have we not heard all this before?

Do these companies ever give up?

As far as we know, there are no unconditional offers ever at these meetings and most likely there is yet again an investment group behind this or a dodgy deed transfer company charging thousands of pounds to supposedly dispose of your timeshare..

Dear followers of the blog, please let us know if you have been contacted by these people as we would love to hear what their Exit System consists off, and maybe Trading Standards in the area of the meeting would also love to join in!
Have you been called by Sutherland Marketing? Please let us know.

  1. Cold Calling says:

Cold calling is absolute rubbish. No exceptions ever.

I was contacted by Sutherland Marketing and made an appointment (before I found this website). The appointment was with Ecoresorts at the brand new offices at Bristol. They did make an unconditional offer and a conditional offer during the ‘interviews’. The conditional depended on us buying into a property development in Dominican Republic. After taking a deposit of £1000 (which fixed the price and was non refundable) we were given a guaranteed 120% buyout at the completion of the development (36 months) if we wished or we could continue with the investment and buy one of the flats, apartments or bigger units. We were offered pages of notes and details to read ‘over the weekend’ and told that we would be contacted by ‘someone from Head Office’ who would guide us through the process of obtaining further funds to complete our investment. In our case this would have amounted to a further sum of just under £80000. We were told the developer would pay any interest we would incur if we borrowed the money. Any payments made by the developer would be deducted from our 120% at the end of the build. If we invested we would receive our £1000, plus £2000 as a ‘bonus’ plus they would pay the £2495 +vat to the company who would take our timeshare (which they said was virtually worthless, because it is a sort of holiday club). This company is Abitus ltd who have a website.
The unconditional offer was to put our timeshare in the hands of Abitus, who only charge when they have sold the timeshare.
We considered over the weekend and telephoned on the Monday to say we were not interested as there was no guarantee of getting any money back. I was persuaded to read the contract, which we had not received at that time but which was emailed immediately. I did this and decided I was still not interested as I didn’t wish to borrow against the house to invest in what was a risk. I telephoned and was asked to give reasons for not continuing, which seemed to be accepted. The following day I was telephoned and asked where the deposit I had made should be paid to and that account was credited 3 days later! I was surprised as we had signed a form that said the deposit was non refundable.
I think that they offered all they said that they would but I cannot comment on the investment or the likelihood of good, if any, returns as I am no expert. I am sure the sceptical amongst readers will consider me gullible and maybe thats true but I thought others who are approached might benefit from reading this ‘confession’! I am glad I found this site!!
