well, i’ll figure out who is this Damien Hirst and try to learn about him too..thank u for sharing..love u, jae 🙂
Church glass, anyone?? I don’t think I can agree with this one…nothing special~*
I loooove church glass or stained glass very much… but like you, not this piece… actually real stained glass has for me more artistic value than this. Hirst “designed” the cover of the new album from 30 Seconds to Mars too, but regarding this I don’t know who copied whom, he copied Ikea, or Ikea him (≧∇≦)
I like some of his stuff, but I’m not much one for dealing with death…no matter how beautiful it can be dressed up. Butterflies go through a lot to get those wings. I hope he appreciates that 🙂
I couldn’t agree more Pinky Lee ~ about the butterflies and actually all the other beings he used for his purpose. I don’t think that he appreciates that a bit.
I think I see butterflies??
Beautiful!
Damien Hirst is a very famous British Artist who also created “For the Love of God”, the Skull Picture Jaejoong also owns. His works deals a lot with the theme of beauty, life, death and the cycle of life, thus in this work he uses butterflies to form the shape of a church stain glass. The work implies the beauty of death and also questions the religious side of death and the idea of life after death and salvation. I went to see “In and Out of Love” at Tate Modern in London last year as well but didn’t remember this piece exactly (well, hirst does tons of such butterfly pieces). Apart from the stench of Formaldehyde from his pickled animal works (lol), the exhibition was quite interesting! Jaejoong’s house is really turning into a gallery XD
Thanks for the explanation! It’s a gorgeous piece and it’s really interesting to know the significance behind it.
Hm… reminds me of looking into a kaleidoscope…
Though I see the butterflies , I can’t help but noticing an “All Seeing Eye” …
Hello Jaejoongie, thanks for dropping an artist name to read about, at least this noona fan has now an idea about the most prominent member of the group known as the Young British Artists (or YBAs), who dominated the art scene in Britain during the 1990s. He is internationally renowned, and is reportedly Britain’s richest living artist , with his wealth valued at £215m in the 2010 Sunday Times Rich List .
and from FinancialTimesVideos, here is a short profiling of Damien Hirst works (just sharing for those who haven’t seen it 🙂 )
Thanks friend ‘caz i don’t know this artist.
Now i know and is so beautiful art. Amazing!
Thanks to Jaejoongie 🙂
Woah. I don’t know who he is. But based on the explaination and the vid, he ought to be a bigshot.
Glad hearing from you again JJ. You’re up from your sleep now? XDD
From what I read, he’s one of the most controversial modern artist, he’s either loved or hated specifically amongst animal rights activists. His concept of “In and Out of Love” (using butterflies) is “I want art to be life but it never can be.”
In the humid space within a complicated installation, butterflies emerged from pupae attached to white painted canvases. Flowers and sugar water enabled the butterflies to feed, mate and lay eggs until they eventually died.
The installation was described by Hirst as one of his most conceptually complicated works to date. He explains: “It’s about love and realism, dreams, ideals, symbols, life and death. I worked out many possible trajectories for these things, like the way the real butterfly can destroy the ideal (birthday-card) kind of love; the symbol exists apart from the real thing. Or the butterflies still being beautiful even when dead. All these things are completely thrown off balance by a comparison I tried to make between art and life, in the upstairs and downstairs installations, a crazy thing to do when in the end it’s all art …. but he wasn’t able to escape from huge controversy.
one blogger called them rich butterflies ( and the concept is no different from raising poultry or swine or cows for meat, or raising vegetables for consumption, the difference is the butterflies are kept until they eventually died)
Reblogged this on Say It Like You Mean It! and commented:
If one pays attention and looks beyond the beautiful “visual shock” idol, one gets to see the man Kim JaeJoong who is not only smart, insightful, but also very curious and always thirsty to learn new things. He is an autodidact…and he gives more reasons to adore him.
Jaejoong is taking an art break. Are you trying to get inspired?Good idea.
Oh the first one looks like a kite fly away fly away love… so cut…
there sure lots of butterflies there…I always had butterflies in my stomach when I see Jae’s smiles….
WHAT THE HELL. WHAT THE HELL. I WAS THERE. I. WAS. THERE. IN THE TATE MODERN LAST SUMMER. oh wait it’s from april. AAAAAH so close!!!!!
