Varner endorsed former councillor Doug Thompson in the “ugly, partisan and a little bit racist” Conservative nomination in Carleton.
Rick’s former employee Jay Tysick from Thompson’s team took his boss’s place when Thompson quit in a huff, but Patrick Brown disqualified Tysick for suggesting that only born-in-Canada candidates need apply.
Another candidate was booted for suggesting that an opponent withdraw so that he could “throw that Muslim trash to the curbside” – a comment that referred to fellow candidate and eventual winner Goldie Ghamari.

I know people love to say Landsdown was sole-sourced the fact is the city had a open competition 4 times the last 20 years with little to no interest and just as the city was to pick Oseg a group came forward with a idea for a central park the catch the city would have to pay 100% cost around a billion and could not charge any fees to enter the park and it would have cost 5-10 million to keep up every year.
– Proof that we live in a post-truth world. You know that the OSEG 1% developers finance the councillors who cut them such a sweet deal at the taxpayer’s expense? Here’s the first paragraph from the Wikipedia article surely a more reliable source than alt-right truthiness:
The Lansdowne Park redevelopment is a public-private partnership redevelopment of the Lansdowne Park fairgrounds in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. In September 2007, cracks were discovered in Frank Clair Stadium, and a portion of the south-side stands were demolished due to safety concerns. The City of Ottawa subsequently initiated an international design competition to redevelop Lansdowne Park. However, it suspended the competition when a group of Ottawa businessmen known as the Ottawa Sports and Entertainment Group (OSEG), who had been awarded a Canadian Football League franchise on the condition of securing a home venue in Ottawa, proposed a public-private partnership with the City to rebuild the stadium and redevelop the grounds with residential and commercial uses to finance the reconstruction and annual upkeep of the site. Ottawa City Council decided to enter into a partnership with the OSEG group and cancelled its competitive process.
