Mango Monday

I first discovered green smoothies a year and a half ago and since then I’ve had an on again off again relationship with the breakfast powerhouse.  I won’t go into detail about the health benefits of adding greens to your breakfast (there are many), but I will say it’s the easiest way to knock out 4 of your 5 fruits and vegetables before it even turns 9:00am.

I found this recipe for a mango kale smoothie and decided to give it a try.  It takes mango, strawberries, kale, a banana, almond milk (or soy milk, etc.), and protein powder.

(Tip: I cut fresh fruits and vegetables and store them in ziploc bags before freezing.  It’s much more manageable when it comes time to put it all in the blender.)

It was delicious.

Oh, and I highly recommend the Vitamix blender (in the background).  I had a standard run-of-the-mill blender when I first started making green smoothies and it doesn’t even compare to the Vitamix.  If you’re interested in making this a routine, try it out for awhile with your current blender to make sure it’s something you want to continue, and then switch to a more powerful blender like the Vitamix.  With several smoothies a week, I have gotten my money’s worth and then some.
