2009 Oakridge The Parish Chardonnay

Yarra Valley 13.0% Screwcap $32.99 Source: Retail

Another wine made exclusively for Vintage Cellars, this time by David Bicknell.  You can decide for yourself whether this is a good or a bad thing. Or indeed, if you even care.

From the Gruyere district of the Yarra Valley, using hand-picked fruit, whole bunch pressing and then straight into French oak.  Wild yeast ferment and 10 months on lees.

A restrained wine on both nose and palate. Waxed lemons and grapefruit with little itty bitty hints of spiced nougat oak in the background.  Sit that next to a loaf of white bread and sprinkle with a few nuts (not too many).  Entry is good, finish is good, should fill out in time.  Not at all underdone so I hope I haven’t given that impression.  I like this a lot & it got better on day two, adding a milky aspect which worked well.  Give it some more time in the bottle if you can.  It will work excellently with certain foods.  Experiment for yourself to find out which foods.  I’m not a sommelier nor do I want to be.

ps- image is Mr Bicknell’s twitter avatar. I think it’s quite funny.
