2011 Blue Poles Reserve Merlot

imageA (relatively small) increase in price may well lead to more sales. Wine is funny like that.

A more compote-like character to the raspberry fruit high-tones than I remember from previous releases. Spicier too; cloves, cinnamon and fennel seeds. The usual plummy core with suggestions of brined olives and ferns. Oak and tannin in the fine-grained house-style and of obvious quality. Finishes on a note of cured tobacco. Perhaps not quite the depth and evenness of flavour I’ve seen before but that’s nitpicking. 93
