As the collectivization continued on, only 62% of the entire land had been collectivized upon when Stalin changed his mind and halted the collectivization. Some peasants’ resistance against such act led to a massive famine. The crops were being taken away to feed the urban cities and to sell on foreign markets as well as payment for heavy industry. Gulags, or forced labour camps, were set in uncountable places and were later the permanent fixture.
