Necktie Flower Pillows

Standard

When I made the tablecloth + napkin curtains for the bedroom, they replaced two valences which are now pillows! To make the necktie flower a-la-mode:

  • Cut off the fat part of the tie.
  • Unstitch the rest of the tie and remove any interfacing and lining.
  • Fold and press the tie in half (the long way!) and baste the open sides together, pulling gently to gather it as you go.
  • Curl the gathered tie around until it forms a flower shape and tack it together underneath.
  • Stitch a pretty button or earring to the center, then stitch the flower where you want it and finish making your pillow.

I’d like to thankΒ  . . . in training for the inspiration and for suggesting that I try using neckties for flowers! β™₯

  1. Beautiful!! As soon as I have time and can steal a tie from my husband (he keeps each one of his tie sure that he’ll use them one day : P) I’m going to try this!!

  2. Beautiful! I buy silk ties from the charity shop/thrift store to make similar flowers. Sometimes you can drop lucky and buy a bag full of ties for just a few cents.

    • I must try that! I’m almost out of the ones my husband was willing to part with. πŸ™‚ Could you post some of your necktie flowers on your blog? Or have you already done it and could give me a link? I’d love to see them! THANK YOU! πŸ™‚

      • I will let you know when I do. Another good buy at the thrift shop which is along the same lines as this, and I hope you dont mind my mentioning it here, are ladies silk scarfs. I use those to make yoyos/suffolk puffs. Loving your blog and all your fab ideas.

  3. These flowers are cute, You should check out quiltagami. you would LOVE it. Just like origami but with fabric, a bit like that lotus bag but more so. you can do all kinds of things , i saw a lady with 3d folded fabric butterflies sewn on her floral on her bedspread.

  4. I love the way you have been repurposing your clothes, the past few posts. The plaid vest etc from an old shirt, the pillow & purse etc from a blouse and now necktie flower pillow embellishments. You are a very creative and talented seamster! πŸ™‚ (I was going to say ‘sew-er’ but together it looked like sewer and that is not what I meant at all! lol)

    • What a sweet thing to say! I’m having fun making things! And I laughed at your “sewer” comment because I’ve almost done that several times myself! πŸ™‚ Thank you for all your encouragement! πŸ™‚

    • Yes, they’re really easy and fun! πŸ™‚ You can also try necktie ruffles, necktie wristlets, and necktie onesies (previous posts) . . . I just love necktie fabric! πŸ™‚
