I don’t know about you but this was long week. And the crazy thing is that Monday was a US holiday. However, it’s the weekend and it’s time to let loose and so here are two tracks that’ll hopefully make you forget that Monday is gonna be right around the corner again.
Leave it to the Winner’s Mino and iKon’s Bobby to show us how the kids party these days. Yep, I can’t do the party all night long thing anymore but I’m there in spirit. The hilarious thing is these two make Big Bang seem old. Yeah, I know it sounds ridiculous and I still love Big Bang but these two seem to be ushering in a new era of the party hard idols.
As a sub-unit called MOBB, which is a fusion of their names, the video is pretty hilarious in that I love that moment when Mino and Bobby are in the taxi listening to trot music and the taxi driver says that they look familiar. Mino tells him that the driver looks familiar too, while Bobby snickers underneath his shirt, before Mino asks him if he could change the station.
And then there’s another great moment in the video where the two are partying on the back of truck in the middle of Itaewon, literally sampling the one line from the chorus of GD & TOP’s “집에 가지마 (Don’t Go Home)”. The cops show up and suddenly the crowd quiets down while the pair lay down the truck bed to hide out and as soon as they’re gone, the party starts up again.
This part was literally a guerilla performance that was shot with the public in Itaewon.
The only bummer was the appearance of Kush in the music video. I didn’t like his personality on the last season of Show Me the Money and he may be a great producer but I felt meh about seeing him in the video.
코가 삐뚤어질 때까지 = Literally translates as “until our noses get twisted” but it’s a metaphor for drinking until you get thoroughly effed up.

For three weeks, I’ve been tuning into Jealousy Incarnate with Jo Jung Seok and Gong Hyo Jin and it’s just become a habit where I just mutter, ‘I don’t get it. I don’t get it.’ Over and over again.
It’s not that I don’t understand what’s happening in the drama but rather I don’t understand what direction the drama is going nor do I understand why it’s going in the direction that it is. Confused? Yeah, me too. It’s basically watching a hyper kid hopped up on sugar and you’re not sure where they’ll leap. There’s a lot extraneous elements to the plot that’s making going in all different directions that the writer nor the director feels the need to tame.
Let’s face it. The drama starts off by characterizing female weather forecasters in a very sexist way. If it was meant to be comic satire, then the joke’s punchline clearly missed the mark as I wasn’t the only one that was offended by that portrayal. Then there’s the supporting cast of characters and I’m still confused as to what purpose these characters serve in regards to the larger story.
But then, I had a change of heart this week. Backstory: It’s been a particularly stressful week at work and suddenly I felt myself watching the insanity of this drama and finding it endearing for the fact that it made me forget about my stressful day. I know it doesn’t make sense but suddenly, the childishness of Hwa Shin starting to like Pyo Na Ri (Gong Hyo Jin) after she tells him that she’s over her crush on him seemed ridiculous but amusing. I mean, the tone of the drama still doesn’t make sense to me.
I sigh when the drama dives into disco dance montage. I roll my eyes upon seeing two strong female characters getting into a petty catfight. Why are these scenes important for the drama? I honestly don’t know.
I’m still scratching my head over why the drama thought Hwa Shin needed to have breast cancer just so that he could relate to Na Ri. I can’t foresee myself saying that this is a good drama just by the direction it’s going but for now a little nonsensical whimsy might be what the stress doctor ordered for me.
As for Ra.D who sings one of the main love songs for this drama, I have to confess that I have really liked any of his releases since 2013. He’s called a genius musician and in 2013, I really thought he’d be what Zion.T, Crush or even Dean is today but I don’t feel he’s hit the same commercially successful mark. Ra.D has a great voice and he can have some great hits again and I’m hoping with this great love song, people will rediscover him. Like the drama that I can’t make heads or tails of, Ra.D sings about the love/hate and the push-pull factor of relationships that make logic go out the window.
Perhaps that’s the emotions I’m feeling about this drama but for now, at least this OST track is great so I’ll hold off flipping tables until we get to the point where I’ve run out of patience.
