Let It Pour!

A weekly devotional by Reverend Dr. Kevin Schwamb

Everyone this week has been talking about the weather, from the heat wave on the west coast to flooding in the northeast. The daily forecast in our area has gone from bright sunshine and clouds to torrential downpours in a matter of minutes. During one of these transitions, my wife excitedly called me from my study to come and look outside. There etched in the sky were not one but two rainbows in vibrant color extending down into our backyard. But what impressed me most was not the pot of gold at the end (just kidding….) but the reminder of the origin of the rainbow. Following God’s judgment upon the earth in the days of Noah, God gave His promise to Noah and his family that He would never again destroy the earth by water and flood. God then confirms the promise with these words, “I have set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be a sign of the covenant between me and the earth.”

The faithfulness of God to each and every one of His promises should be a means of great encouragement and comfort to us on a daily basis. So even if it continues to pour, remember the sign of the rainbow and the New Covenant has come to us through Jesus Christ.
