Iconic US kid’s show Sesame Street is set for the big screen.
The Hollywood Reporter notes 20th Century Fox has picked up the movie rights with series writer Joey Mazzarino due to write the script.
Sesame Workshop (formerly known as the Children’s Television Workshop), is expected to be involved in a producer capacity as well.
The series, which premiered in 1969, is known the world over, including for its characters Big Bird, Bert and Ernie, Grover, Oscar the Grouch, Cookie Monster and Elmo.
Both Cookie Monster and Elmo will be in Australia next month (you have been warned!).

Talking of Sesame Street, I watched quite an interesting documentary on the guy who plays Elmo, and how he came to be working with Elmo.
Well considering the guest stars that get on the show i wonder who will be in the movie.
As to the Dark Crystal sequel, i did read that the Australian Spierig brothers who directed the rather underrated Daybreakers got the job. Though i think it’s been put on hold again.
Gelfliiiiiiiiiiiing!
Are they doing a remake of Brokeback Mountain?
Follow That Bird was one of my favourite movies growing up. I doubt they can do better, but we’ll see.
I’m still waiting for the Dark Crystal sequel and the Fraggle Rock movie, which have been in development for almost a decade.
Love Bert & Ernie! Hope they get a starring role!
Hopefully it is something more like ‘Follow That Bird’ and not something like ‘Elmo in Grouchland’.
