Les Manifestations des Casseroles in East Van, solidarity event with Quebec students

A brief impromptu protest took place on Sunday night between 8:40-9pm beside the landmark East Van cross at Clark Drive and 6th. The participants engaged in the classic ‘pots and pans protest’ to show solidarity with the ongoing student protests against steep tuition fee hikes in Quebec. A much larger event is planned for Wed May 30, 8pm at the Vancouver Art Gallery, further information is available at this Facebook link. The event was ‘inspired by the nightly Casseroles in Montreal, as well as the moving, open letter send to the English media. The local crowd of 80-100 responded to this letter on short notice. At 9pm, the crowd walked over to Commercial Drive, and took their protest up to Grandview Park. Video footage of the event and march is below:
