BETHLEHEM (Ma’an) — Israeli prison services are raiding the cells of detainees who participated in a mass hunger strike, the PA Ministry of Detainee Affairs said Monday.

Prison guards are raiding detainees’ cells at night and forcing them to strip, leading to clashes between jail authorities and prisoners, the ministry said in a statement.

In Eshel prison in Beersheva, prison guards raided three sections and strip searched detainees. Prisoners were handcuffed for six hours as guards confiscated electronic devices, including fans, and destroyed prisoners’ belongings, the ministry said.

Prison guards also beat several detainees, the ministry said. Ayman Hmaideh sustained facial injuries, Ashraf Zghari was injured in his eye and Khalil Msalam was beaten across his body.

Similar raids were carried out in Nafha, Ramon, Ashkelon, Ofer and Hadarim jails, the ministry said.
