What is an “Exhibitor”

An exhibitor is an owner of a movie theatre. Generally speaking, movie theatres get 50% of the box office revenue. So when you read in the news that a movie grossed a certain amount in domestic box office, only half of that money actually goes to the distributor. However, there are some exceptions. Some times, a distributor will strike a deal where they will get more than 50% for the first week. In Hollywood, every deal can be negotiated.
