Kickass Cupcakes Truck, Boston

I appreciate that cupcakes have really come into the Boston scene, Sweet, Curly, Lulu’s and there are many other cupcakes at Flour, Thinking Cup and the North End.

The first dedicated cupcake truck I have seen in Boston is Kickass Cupcakes, parked in the Back Bay on Clarendon and Berkeley. Kickass has a retail front in Davis Square, Somerville and makes small batches. It is suggested that if one has a large order to call or email in advance.Kickass has a lot of experimental and non-traditional flavors. I really was excited to try caramel apple, cookie dough and chocolate oink (whipped cream center, maple icing topped with candied bacon). They also have deep fried cupcakes for $4.00, cupcake parfaits for $4 and sides of frosting for $1.

The price of cupcakes are $3.00 each and Mini cupcakes $16.50 per dozen, which could be considered pricey,, however the flavors are very creative.

Lotus blossom cupcake

I really enjoyed the Ltd. Edition Lotus Blossom, a buttermilk cupcake, sake soaked pear center, lychee icing, fresh lime zest garnish. I would definitely get this one again.

The cream cheese frosted blueberry cupcake was a first for me.

I also tried caramel mochiatto, a chocolate cupcake, caramel center and mocha frosting topped with chocolate covered espresso beans.

My ultimate favorite this far is the Gluten-free Vanilla Cupcake, soft, moist and really satiating frosting.

There are other gluten-free now available by special order in a wheat free version such as gluten-free chocolate, gluten-free Lucky (luscious lemon cupcake with white chocolate buttercream and candied ginger, comes with a fortune). I also want to try the gluten-free Mojito, (vanilla cupcake soaked with rum, sugar cane lime frosting and fresh mint).
