Little Earthquakes by Jennifer Weiner
I finished my book club book in no time and decided to pick up another Jennifer Weiner book since I loved the first one I read. This book profiles four women who meet while doing pregnant yoga and build lasting lasting friendships despite their differences. Ayinde is a news broadcaster who moves to Philadelphia once her NBA basketball player husband is traded. Becky is the token overweight woman (i think all of Jennifer Weiner books have one) and a chef who anxiously anticipates the day she is actually showing in her pregnancy. Kelly is a high strung event planner and Lia is an hollywood C or D lister who moves back home after a tragedy. All four women face challenges in raising babies (it’s apparently not as easy as it looks…j/k) and issues in their marriage from affairs, unemployment and the dreaded overbearing mother in law.
Despite not being in the baby phase of my life this was a good read with enough drama to keep me engagd. I think those who are mothers would enjoy the book alot more because they can relate. At this point I just can’t visualize myself pregnant! I do want kids but I think that timeline has eased up since I’ve moved to Australia. There is so much to see on this side of the world. I think I just need a little more time with the two of us and the freedom to hop up and go before a baby comes along. But we’ll see…playing this one by ear ;-).
I’ll look for more books from this author but this one gets 3 out of 4 stars.
Yep – I like this one too and feel just about the same way. Great single read, maybe an even better mommy read. Weiner’s books are more entertainment than real life – but she definitely reps big girls. You know I’m a nerd, so I’ve googled her and she is a big girl so she has at least one fab big girl in each story so far. Don’t forget How to be Single by Liz Tucillo <~ contrary to the title its not a how-to book on the topic and I think all women at whatever phase, who have any ounce of humor will find this ridiculously funny.

I agree with you here but I think they are real enough with a bit of humor so she keeps you entertained but can actually see yourself in these situations. I read one of her interviews and gathered she was a big girl as well…no hating here! I’ll add How to be Single to my wishlist.
