‘Lifeboat’ at Cobham Heritage Day Finale
Cobham Village Hall
13th September, 2014
We were asked by Cobham Conservation & Heritage Trust to present “Lifeboat” as the opening of the Finale to Cobham Heritage Day.
The evening was judged a great success with ‘Lifeboat‘ very well received by a large and enthusiastic audience.
“Lifeboat”, written by Nicola McCartney and directed by Rodney Pearson, is the moving story of two girls who clung for 19 hours to an upturned lifeboat after their evacuation ship, SS City of Benares, was torpedoed by a German U-boat in the North Atlantic in September 1940.
The girls willed each other to survive………..
Beth: We didn’t let go. Why didn’t we let go?
Bess: Well, we couldn’t give up, could we?
Beth: That’s right, we were not in the business of giving up.
It is a play for all ages and especially for anyone interested in the story of evacuees during World War II.
Cobham Players have presented ‘Lifeboat‘ several times. In 2010, we performed ‘Lifeboat‘ at the Leatherhead Drama Festival and the hard work and outstanding performances of the two actresses, Samantha Myers and Millie Hart, were rewarded with the Best Actress Award – which they won jointly. Also that year, our production of ‘Lifeboat’ won through to the Quarter Finals of the All England Drama Competition.
