In the 1980s, Cleve Butcher Road held an interesting sight. In between two brand new, modern lake houses sat an artifact of what the Salt Creek Valley once was.
The Cleve Butcher Road farmhouse was built in the nineteenth century by some of the area’s more affluent farmers. The one and a half story double-pen house is an imaginative extension of the more modest homes on Knightridge Road. When Morrison was studying the region, the Cleve Butcher Road farmhouse was very much in danger due to rising land values.
At one time, a farmhouse like this was the aspiration of any industrious farmer in the region, but today, due to both the flooding of the valley and the vulnerability of wooden structures, very few examples remain.
