The Ottawa blues fest gig is actually on July 18 . I had a look at the other bands playing and haven’t heard most of them. None of the old school blues anyway .

  2. grannypants Says:

Canada tour is pretty light, disappointed they will not make a west coast swing. Vancouver is waiting,,,,,

  3. Mark Jones Says:

I’ve just noticed that David Coverdale is free on December 3rd .. having finished his mainline Europe dates the night before … and a little break before starting in the UK.

I know it wont happen …. but maybe he’ll be invited on stage.

And which promoter missed the opportunity for Coverdale doing his era as support to current DP doing the others.

I know its fantasy.. but heh!

  4. Christophe COLUSSA Says:

New album tour or Best of Tour ?

    • simon robinson Says:

Opinion is divided. Some people expect a new studio album this year; others suggest the London O2Arena concert will be a climactic end to the What’s Up?! tour, clearing the way for a new album and tour in 2016.

  5. Badders902 Says:

Holmfirth Picturedrome is a fab venue. Great sound. Seen Uriah Heep there twice. Saw Steve Lukather there – he was amazing.
Been a Purple fan for over 35 years yet increasingly disappointed at how little they play here.
Gillan the band toured up and down the country regularly – why not Purple?

  6. Blue ivy Says:

    come back to belgrade!!!

  7. christophe colussa Says:

Well… when they’ll be in paradise. maybe we’ll have some regret to not have seen again

  8. Danny Fox Says:

There is a saying, that you should never forget your roots. It appears the band have! Time to focus on what was rather than what may be. I’ve had enough supporting a band that does more dates in an eastern block country than the U.K. I believe we have given purple every opportunity to put things right with a decent tour, but not since 96 have we seen a comprehensive UK tour. Sorry for the rant Simon.

    • simon robinson Says:

Not a problem Danny, we’ve known each other long enough! It is a bit galling to see them doing this (and one show in London trick is a real two fingers up to fans elsewhere) but on the other hand how much appetite would there be now for such a comprehensive tour here as they did in 1996?

    • Jerry Says:

Danny, a lot of bands get criticised for where or how often they play certain territories, but it really is a case of supply and demand, and is ultimately to do with promoters rather than the band’s. No band promotes itself, so it is down to the interest of promoters. I have worked with several acts including Glenn, and I am only too aware of the choice of venue and number of venues in any country is almost always down to what the promoter thinks that act will warrant. And whilst I don’t know Purple’s situation it may well be that promoters think they are good for one or two bigger shows, but do not feel that there is sufficient demand for 10-20 gigs throughout the UK in smaller venues. The diehards who post on forums such as these are not the bulk of the audience. Most of whom are probably not even aware of some of the band members names, and only want to hear the hit songs they know from the past. But that’s another story.

      • simon robinson Says:

All very true, although in some cases bands could open up more options by charging less once in a while which would enable promoters to take more of a risk. The boss at the Holmfirth Picture House is keen to have a go!

  9. Aleksey Says:

    Tour across almost all Europe!
    For new album?
    Or Greatest Hits live?

  10. dp Says:

    any Ireland date ?

  11. Andy Naish Says:

12 dates in Germany and only 1 in the UK!? And they want £60 a ticket! No chance.

  12. lisbet Says:

    What about Denmark?

  13. f0xr0x Says:

£60 a ticket? Really? For that sort of money, I’d expect a front row seat, a four course dinner and a bottle of house red.

  14. Barry Williamson Says:

I don’t think one date constitutes a tour Simon……hope there’s more on the way , hopefully visiting Liverpool this time.

  15. CeeBee52 Says:

I’m assuming these dates relate to Deep Purple?
    The band isn’t actually mentioned.
