COLLINS S. TUCKER SR.

NEWPORT NEWS – Collins Sinclair Tucker Sr., 70, a native and lifelong Newport News resident, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 20, 1996.

He retired from Fort Eustis Civil Service as a motor officer after 33 years of service. He was former chairman of the Deacon Board of the Colossian Baptist Church, where he served on all the choirs, the Male Chorus, taught Bible school, was a former Sunday school teacher, and was co-founder of the Young Voices for God and the Colossian Sextet. He was also a former member of the Peninsula Baptist Deacons Union, past master of Providence Wing Lodge No. 299, F. & A.M., and past patron of Golden Link Chapter No. 89, OES.

He is survived by his wife, Alma “Precious” Tucker of Newport News; one son, Sinclair Tucker of Williamsburg; two daughters, Jacqueline Gholson of Tabb and Leeda Hundley of Fort Hood, Texas; 10 grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren; one sister, Thelma Carter of Temple Hills, Md.; and four brothers, William H. Tucker of Hampton, Charles Tucker of York County and Lawrence Tucker and Lloyd Tucker, both of Newport News.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Feb. 24, at 3 p.m. at Colossian Baptist Church with the Rev. Steven Banks officiating. Burial with military honors and Masonic rites will follow services in the church cemetery. Christian wake services and family visitation will be Friday, Feb. 23, from 7 to 8 p.m. at Colossian Baptist Church. The family will assemble at 44 Chipley Drive by 2:30 p.m. on Saturday.
