Lin Hsin-Chen – Series #3 – Journey Series #3: Memento of Germany

I love dandelions. They grow together with weeds. Dandelions are swaying in breeze and the seeds are dispersing into wind. It reminds us that life is gentle and would finally vanish without a trace. Flying seeds, dissipating flowers, are not only an end, but also a rebirth. A plant that is full of hope and representing circle of life.

Materials: woven silk, wool and cotton fabrics, lace and metallic thread that are collected during my visit to Germany
Techniques: hand stitched, hand pieced, hand appliqué, hand quilted, hand embroidered.

  1. Chantal GUILLERMET

The contrast between your background and the other fabrics is very effective. The embroideries are delicate, and I like your poetical explanation about the circle of life.

    • Thank you, Chantal. I’ve used all the fabrics that I collected during my visit to Germany for making the quilt. It’s a little bit limited, but I tried my best to apply them! I also like the embroideries and I am happy with the result 🙂

  2. Again a nice memory to a country you visited. I love your dandelions.

  3. Thank you, Greetje. I have been enjoying creating the series and remembering my journeys.

  4. I really like your rendering of dandelions, Lin, but I will tell you that where I live, dandelions are indeed considered weeds! I don’t go after them chemically, however, which means that my only recourse is to either dig them out (hard on the hands), and or to mow them down with the lawn mower (which I do with great glee!) 😉

  5. Lin a beautiful quilt and mirrors your statement, although it is simpler than that we are used to seeing in your quilts I love the use of colour thread and background.

  6. carolinehiggs

A very delicate and yet stark quilt, I think you have produced a lovely piece of work which ties dandelions and your German fabric together beautifully.

  7. joanbrailsford

Very nice representation of the dandelions, and I particularly like the way that the seeds float away. The contrast with the background is very effective, and your fabric works well.

  8. I like the way you have represented the dandelions and how the pieced background adds extra interest to the whole.

  9. You have portrayed the dandelions beautifully so ethereal. Considered a weed here. The dark background works really well

  10. The contrast between the dark background and the flowers works really well. Again a nice memory of your travels.

  11. You created a very nice memory of your trip to Germany. The different fabrics, textures, embroideries and hand quilting really work well together.
