Drowned in the Avon

On Saturday, at the Three Cups Inn, an inquest was held before Mr Coroner A L Forrester touching the death of Ernest Jack Thornbury, whose body was recovered on the previous day.

Ethel Thornbury, wife of Ernest Thornbury, mason’s labourer, of Westport, said the deceased was her child, aged 3 years, 10 months, and she last saw him alive at 1.30 on Friday, when he was at play.

Harold Frederick John Gladwin, baker, Malmesbury, deposed to recovering the body, and Dr Seymour A Millen, of Westport, said he tried artificial respiration on the child for nearly an hour, applying the nasal remedies, but without success. A verdict of “Found Drowned” was returned.
