On Saturday the coroner, Mr T F Sylvester, held an inquest at the Carpenter’s Arms inn, on the body of Emily Jane Scott, aged 25, single woman, of Dilton Marsh, Westbury, who died on the 28th ult., under the following circumstances.

The deceased, a weaver employed at Messrs Stancomb’s factory, had been ailing for some time, was taken with violent vomiting on the 27th, was attended by Dr Taylor, who prescribed for her, but the vomiting increased, and she died on the following day.

The medical evidence showed that she was not pregnant, and had taken nothing to injure her; but that the cause of death was tubercular meningitis, or inflammation of the brain.
