Godden, Arthur 1904 Sep 9th West Lavington
Death of a Salvationist
Mr Coroner Mr F T Sylvester on Tuesday held an inquest at West Lavington, near Devizes, touching the death of Arthur Godden, who was accidentally killed on the previous day whilst on duty with a coal cart. The deceased, who had been a member of the Salvation Army for the past eleven years, and who was much respected in the village, was delivering coal for his employer, Mr J Davis, when the horse became startled and ran away, knocking Godden down, the wheel of the cart going over his chest. After hearing the facts the jury returned a verdict of “accidental death.” The deceased leaves a widow and two young children.
