Stockham, Jeremiah

Stockham, Jeremiah      1875 May 8th

On Saturday last an inquest was held by G Smith, Esq., the city coroner, at the William IV inn, Milford-street, relative to the death of Jeremiah Stockham, who died suddenly the preceding day.

The deceased was 74 years of age, and lived in Brown-street, and he gained a livelihood by helping the carriers at the Goat inn, Milford-street. He was coming past the William IV inn the preceding day when he was suddenly struck down by a fit and died immediately.

Mr Wilkes, surgeon, was called, but he of course could render no aid. He gave evidence on Saturday to show that death was the result of failure of the heart from age and debility, and a verdict was returned in accordance with that testimony. To the deceased’s daughter, who was overwhelmed with grief, the jury handed over their fees.
