Axe, Alfred

Axe, Alfred         1884 August 2nd          Yeovil

On Tuesday an inquest was held at the Portman Arms, East Chinnock, before the deputy coroner (Mr Trevor Davis), touching the death of Alfred Axe, a youth who met his death through being kicked by a horse.

Deceased was in a field with two other boys, on Chinnock Hill, when they saw a horse worrying a pony. They caught the horse, which was very restive and kicked deceased severely. He tried to walk home but was unable to do so, as he was in great pain, and a man named Bartlett took him home in his donkey and cart.

Dr Roberts attended him, but deceased died on Saturday. The doctor stated that the kick was over the right groin. The jury returned a verdict of “Accidental death.”
